-"The sun never knew how great it was until it hit the side of a building." - Louis Kahn

I am Sanjeeva Rao s/o Apparow, fondly referred to as Jeev. Welcome to my site, if work shall speak louder than words please feel free to scroll on below. If not, here goes...Currently a M.Arch (LAM Part II) Graduate from Taylor's University with a previous BSc. Arch Degree (LAM Part I) from Lim Kok Wing University. A local boy hailing from Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Passionate with both architecture and art, I am a fast learner. 2 years work experience in Veritas Architects gave me immeasurable experiences especially in facade design, technical details and 3d printing. A feature in News Straits Time during my education in Taylors. Numerous Art awards in my yesteryear keep me wanting to achieve more. . My time in the La Sallian congress kept my scrutiny on the well being of society. They all boil down to the way I approach architecture - A basis to improve the built environment as a service rendered to society.

INTEREST

I am a Dreamer, I indulge in painting, reading, composing music, and miscellaneous art projects. I play the guitar and classical indian tabla. Literature and poetry comes in mind with the likes of Louis Kahn, Oscar Wilde and Mario Puzo. I have explored fine arts to the extents of cubism, surrealism, realism, sketching and abstract arts. God is in the details afterall (Mies Van De Rohe)

However my architectural mantra is architecture of meaning. Inspired heavily by the works of Louis Kahn, Every threshold architecture touches, we can make it speak. Creating experiential spaces excites me just as much as a facade talking to the pedestrian that saunter it.

ABOUT ME

PROJECTS

AROHA-Container Residence

Function : Residential Project

Name : Aroha - Mountains

Location -Wangsa Maju, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.

Concept : Mountain terrace (Hierarchy)

Design : Modular Design

Philosophy : The site is the tail end of Titiwangsa mountain range, a sloped site. Hence, the Sanskrit name Aroha comes in play, which means Mountain. The site gave birth to its concept, hierarchy. The design has different levels of spaces that are strategically placed for efficient circulation and hierarchy. What starts from the lower public space like the clubhouse, ends in a higher private housing space.

VIS VIRES-Youth Centre

Function : Youth Centre

Name : Vis Vires - Power of Youth

Location - Titiwangsa, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.

Concept : Stonehenge, (time/ sundial)

Design : Geometric & Parametric Design

Philosophy : Youth is an everlasting moment for every individual, hence this youth centre is derived from the stonehenge design that was predominantly a sun dial representing time. Vis Vires in latin means Power of Youth, hence this design is to churn the energy and power of youths in a timeless piece of architecture

EXODUS-Exotic Car Gallery

Function : Car Gallery

Name : Exodus - Sister of Sephora, ancient western text

Location - Bukit Bintang, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.

Concept : Racing Track, (A standstill road that showcases cars)

Design : Geometric & Fluid Design

Philosophy : A frozen race track design that houses exotic cars gives a poetic relationship. Bukit Bintang has a famous gallery called Sephora, thus Exodus that is derived from the same texts as Sephora compliments its design with a contrasting Fluid design. This, uplifts Bukit Bintang's image as a tourist centre without compromising the value of its design. Occupant circulation is a gradient from the 1st to the 3rd floor and vice versa, to excite occupants

THESIS - READING ETHOS - AN ARCHITECTURE OF MEANING FOR SMK LSK

Modern national schools in Malaysia have been built largely as a reflection of the factory school model widely adopted in developing countries, a very efficient learning model to produce a generation of workforce as industries bloom (Upitis 2004) .This type of architecture discourages the sense of ownership, participation or responsibility which is necessary to foster a prosocial behavioured community (taylor, 1993). National school architecture could be more than just facilities where transference of knowledge through school curriculum could transpire. Schools could be pedagogical tool by itself in accordance to the current needs and designed to convey values and knowledge to its students, both through intentional strategies or subconscious behavioural alterations.

DISSERTATION - UNDERSTANDING LOUIS KAHN

Disengaging spaces is a problematic relationship between people and the current state of architecture. Modern mass produced buildings are disengaging rather than engaging, exploiting emotions rather than evoking experience. By studying the philosophies of Louis I. Khan, this study aims to study the translation of architectural components into form and space narrating spatial engagement. The significance  of this study aims to understand the relationship and importance between formal and spatial approaches with creating spatial engagement and sense of belonging that may aid future civic and institutional designs to help foster supportive environment for architects, developers, designers, authorities, and academics.

KAMPUNG CINA - THE HOUSE - CULTURAL CENTRE

set within the theoretical framework of cultural sustainability, this

proposal is based on a place making scenario that takes place in the current timeline of chinatown. the twentieth century urban

growth has engulfed small township and places which form part

of the urban environment. kampung cina, is a heritage site, it is

vital to preserve its histories, communities, and cultural practices of places. positioning itself as a small contribution within its large

colossal task of society sustainability, kampung cina faces adverse

crisis of an aging peranakan community and rapid urbanization which undermines the culture of the locals and the sustainability of the

beautiful row of shop houses.

KLANG TOWN - T.A.N.A.M - COMMUNITY CENTRE

As place-making is vital for Klang town, addressing three related issues require a subtle threshold of solutions which sustain each other. Thus, using a concept of mutual symbiosis, whereby creating a symbiotic relationship that resolves each of the research question, it obligates mutualism in which the interacting programmes are interdependant hence creating a holistic answer to Klang town’s rejuvenation plight. Marrying three programmes of institution, lifestyle centre and urban garden, provides a platform to address issues pertaining to economy, social and climate. Thus creating awareness and motivating the community whilst providing a much needed congregation and leisure space with the efficient use of urban garden that can give back to the community and reduces the town’s carbon footprint brings about this proposal. - TANAM - Cultivating Culture of Community.
